Hello!

Thank you for taking the time to consider us as a family for your child.  The decision you are making will impact the lives of many people and is a decision we know you are not taking lightly.   We also took our decision to adopt a child very seriously and want you to know that we have done what we can to prepare and educate ourselves so that we can do our best as parents to give our child unending amounts of love and support. We feel that our job with the profile is to give you an honest glimpse at what a child’s life with us would be like so that you can choose a family that most shares your values, beliefs and dreams for this child.  We hope that by the time you are finished reading this that you find that we are child-focused, open-minded and very ready to have a child in our lives.

We are Ken and Nicole from the Chicago area, a couple that likes to laugh together.  If you can’t already tell, we’re pretty big Simpson’s fans.  Some of the artwork in our house is based on The Simpson’s, we own the DVDs for every season and the movie.  Even the top of our wedding cake had Homer and Marge in place of the typical bride and groom figures.  We’ll both say we’re Cubs fans if asked to choose and we always have a great time at Wrigley (although we’ll support the Sox too!).  Ken is known for his sense of humor at work, and one of Nicole’s uncles told her that she should be a stand-up comedian after listening to her give a speech at her grandmother’s 80th birthday party.

We have been married since July 2002 but started dating in March 1999.  Ever since we met we’ve been having adventures together.  From road trips to exotic restaurants to starting a family, we’ve relied on each other and have been able to take life’s unexpected turns in stride because we’re together.  In the time that has passed since we met, we’ve both graduated from DePaul University, and Nicole went on to earn a master’s degree in education. One of the best things about our jobs is that we both get a lot of days off which means we get to spend more time together. After his graduation Ken began working for US Customs as an auditor and has gotten to travel to some interesting places.  Nicole began teaching 8th grade social studies and 6th grade English in 2004 and has loved every minute of it- being with kids is what makes her happiest.

We came to the decision to expand our family through adoption like many other couples.  We went through fertility treatments for about two years before we began talking about and researching adoption. The more we learned, the more we grew confident about choosing adoption as the path to our future family.  Adoption is a loving choice that is made by birth parents and adoptive parents together.  We are excited about our decision and have told all of our family, friends, and coworkers that we are trying to adopt.  Everyone has been so supportive and it seems like they want to meet our child almost as badly as we do!

Ultimately we would like to adopt two children.  We both have siblings and can’t imagine our lives without them, so we’d like to give that to our children too.  If you also have siblings, you probably know that having a brother or sister is a bond that can’t be replaced. It’s like having a secret- only you and your siblings know your parents' quirks and what it was like to grow up with them.  As adults, we are both close to our siblings- they’re our best friends.  We hope that our children can have as positive a connection with each other as we do with our siblings.
